God Has Not Forgotten You
God Has Not Forgotten You
There are times when faithful, dedicated believers lives are touched in difficult ways. Their service to others is twisted or ignored, trouble seems to be seeping into their lives from every angle, their health is compromised, relationships have soured, and/or their finances have been touched. Not the life of blessing that faithful service and obedience was supposed to bring. The writer of Hebrews gives encouragement, “For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do.” Hebrews 6:10. God has not forgotten you. He still knows every hair upon your head. He still sees you when you sit down and you stand up. Isaiah 49:15,16 is still, and will forever be true, “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” Are those not some of the powerful words you have ever heard? I can’t help but think of the scars on Jesus’ hands from his dying for us. Proof of his love and grace to us. When he sees those scars he sees our names.
David felt some of the difficulties of doing what was right and things not turning out as he expected. I love the way he wrote these truths, “For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in”. Psalm 27:10. The pain and difficulties were so fresh that deliverance had not come yet. Still, David knew, that God would take him in. He would not be abandoned completely. The difficulties and loneliness that could come would all be met by God. Sometimes, the hardest problems we face are the problems that we believe are yet to come. Matthew warns us about worrying about tomorrow’s problems. God gives grace for today and he will give grace for tomorrow. You may not have things under control, but he does!
On top of his great grace and his loving presence in our lives, listen to these truths. Ephesians 2:7, “So that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus”. “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.” I Cor 2:9. In the coming ages, God will spend eternity showing us his immeasurable riches. Riches that we can’t even imagine. It makes it more than worth it to end well here.
A former pastor of mine used to remind us of the truth that God can deliver at any moment in ways we cannot imagine. What if you chose to give up and God was going to deliver you the next moment? An elderly mentor at my seminary, Newton Conant (I just love his name) used to walk around to each seminarian and remind them to live for Jesus, just for the next minute. Then the next. Soon those minutes added up to a life time of faithfulness and joy.
God has not forgotten you. He is not slack in keeping his promises. He will never, no never, leave you nor forsake you. He catches your tears in a bottle. He has you written on the palms of his hands.
