Simple Reminder
Simple Reminder
I am not sure how your week is going. Maybe you have had a difficult month. Maybe your life is a living example of how no good deed goes unpunished. Every effort you have made lately has been abused by others and has made life worse. It could be that you are simply tired...maybe even a little weary. Your health isn’t where you would like it to be and the constant grind of not feeling well has taken it’s toll. Maybe you have read one too many articles or seen one too many news clips. The craziness that is out there has begun to creep into your own life. The end of the school year always brings extra activity and summer hasn’t even gotten into full swing yet. Any quiet time that you have enjoyed will be gone as the kids will be home full time soon. “Yea!” you say with dripping sarcasm. So let me give you some good advice as you head into this summer. It is not my advice. In fact, I am not sure whose advice it is but I do know that it is from God and so it is great life advice. Amazingly good life coaching.
“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God” Hebrews 13:16.
The first paragraph’s life’s pressures might lead us to neglect doing good. They might make us circle the wagons and make all of life about ourselves. But that kind of attitude does not please God. What pleases him is when we choose to do good and we choose to sacrifice for others. When we please God, we find our greatest joy. Do not allow the business and pressures of life to keep you from giving to others and from doing good. Do not allow them to rob you of your joy and strength. God gives strength to those who seek to walk in obedience to him. If you make life about yourself, the only strength you have is your own and that is never enough.
Make time today to do good and to sacrificially give to others. Look for opportunities to accomplish these two things. See others who are stressed. Listen for families that need help. Do not allow your weariness to make you blind and deaf to others. Hold a door, buy someone's ice cream, write an email, make a phone call, lift up someone’s weary hands...do good and sacrifice.
