Fruitcake

I am pretty sure that I have never really tried a piece of fruitcake. It may be scrumptiously delicious or it may be as bad as some people like to portray it.  I really do not have a strong opinion either way.  Some of you do.  Some of you are angry because of the bad rap fruitcake gets.  Part of your life mission is to do your best to get people to try a piece of fruitcake.  You are certain, that if they would get past their prejudices and just try a piece, then they would be hooked forever.  Others of you just cannot let a good fruitcake joke moment pass without making some kind of comment.  If it annoys a fruitcake lover, that is all the better.  ‘Tis the Season!!
In light of the great divide about fruitcake let me share with you a little reminder of one of the gifts believers in Jesus have been given.  No, it is not a promise of fruitcake in heaven, but it is the indwelling presence of the Spirit of God in our lives.  This indwelling of the Spirit will also produce attributes in our lives. They are called the Fruit of the Spirit.  Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. These are not attributes we need to pray to receive.  They are fruit from the presence of the Spirit in our lives.  We will need to pray to see them grow past some of the negative fruit we have nurtured over the years but if we allow them to, they can show the change the Spirit is producing in our lives.
So, this holiday season, may we all choose to use the fruitcake moments in our lives to manifest the fruit of the Spirit.  And that is all I have to say about fruitcake.
