Keeps Getting Better
Keeps Getting Better
Let me give you something to chew on and maybe we can get together one day and share our thoughts.
John 1:16 – For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.
Psalm 84:7 – They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion.
II Corinthians 3:18 – But we all, with unveiled faces, looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
Notice each phrase: grace upon grace; strength to strength; glory to glory. I would encourage you to look up each phrase in their full context. Each is tremendously encouraging. Let me point out two quick observations to brighten your day.
The first being that each phrase speaks to the journey we are on as believers in Jesus Christ. Walking with Christ moves us, each moment, closer and closer to glory. What is cool is that where we start is full of grace, strength and glory and things only build from there. Our daily walk with Christ is one grace upon another. It is going from one strength to another. It is going from the glory of the old covenant to the glory of the new covenant. It reminds me of the old song, “everyday with Jesus is sweeter than the day before”. Today I walk in a strength that God provides and tomorrow I will move to another strength. Yes, I may have new problems each day but that only means that God is going to give me a new strength. What a great journey.
The second observation is most clearly seen in the phrase, grace upon grace. Each day builds upon the last day. Each grace heaps upon the last grace. Just when we think that God cannot give anymore, he gives us new graces. They just keep piling up in our lives. He gives exceedingly and abundantly above all we could ask or think. Think about that phrase for a moment. God desires to work in our lives. He desires to do so exceeding all that we could even think about. And just so we are not confused, he tells us that he will give graces in an abundant manner. So abundant, we can’t even imagine it. He loves to give us grace.
So, if your day does not seem to fit these descriptions, ask yourself this: Is the problem that God is not fulfilling his promises or is the problem your eyes are not seeing what he is giving?
