What Could Have Been

What Could Have Been

This morning I kind of stumbled upon a Psalm.  I have not studied the background of the Psalm.  I simply read it and enjoyed it.  Listen to the first couple of verses, “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side – let Israel now say – if it had not been the Lord who was on our side…”.  That is not a bad little truth to meditate on today.  Immediately several instances in my life came to my mind. When I was little and I slipped off the top step of a slide and fell to the black top.  When I decided to speed up at an intersection on my bike and the other driver tried to beat me across.  When I wasn’t paying attention at a light and did not go on green and when I finally looked up a car blasted through the red light right where I would have been in the intersection.  My whole life as a Pastor as I seek to minister to people.  The raising of my children and my marriage to my patient wife.  The ability to provide for my family. Every time I read and understand Scripture.  The loss of my nephew and my father.  Walking through the valley of the shadow of death with friends and church family.  Dark nights of doubt and uncertainty.  “If it had not been the Lord who was on my side.”

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;  Praise him all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!  Amen.

“Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth”.  Ps 124:8
