Why Do Birds Sing?
Why Do the Birds Sing?
Maybe it is just me, but the birds seem extra loud this year. Their singing and chirping seem to be filling the air in a special way this Spring. Have you ever wondered why the birds sing? I have read that birds sing to defend their nests and to impress other birds. The stronger the song, the more they impress. This must be the year to impress.
Job gives us another reason that the birds may sing. In this passage he was not having a good day and was trying to convince his friends that God was in control of his situation. I read the passage as if Job was a little exasperated and so he kind of blurts out, “If you don’t believe me, ask them!”. Listen to how he says this to his friends, “But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this?” Job 12:7-9. The birds are singing to let us know that the Lord is in control of all things. They are reminding us, every day, usually as we wake up, that everything is ok because our Lord is in control. Maybe they are chirping loudly this Spring because we need to hear that truth more than ever right now. Today is a good day because the Lord has made this day and he is in control of all that happens today. Like Job, even if it is not our favorite day, it still is a day that the Lord controls and therefore, we will rejoice and be glad in it. That is what the birds are singing about. Why not join them?
